it is 8:00 a.m. let's start with a quick first look at the weather with meteorologist lisa argen. good morning, lisa. >> good morning, katie. we have a 1 to 2-mile visibility from sfo to half moon bay. here is where we have some of the compressed fog and sneaking up into the north bay it is in the south bay and east bay and it is sunny, but we will look for a cooler afternoon. as we go through the rest of the morning we have 50s on tap with low clouds at the coast and then by noontime we are in the low to mid60s around the bay with a few clouds. that's a switch. by the afternoon still mild, but not as mild as it has been. upper 60s should be the warm end this afternoon with 72 in the livermore valley and in

the 50s at the coast with an on shore push. the winds kick up and we have a wind advisory for some gusty winds overnight. i i will detail that for you and will it change the seven-day forecast? back to you. now to developing news on the deadly shooting at l.a.x. at this hour we are seeing for the first time a picture of the tsa agent who was killed. we are also learning more about the suspected it shooter who sent travelers running for their lives yesterday. cecilia vega has more from l.a.x. >> overnight the identity of the slain tsa officer revealed. he is 39-year-old her -- herardo hernandez identify by his neighbors and transferred recently from montana, the first ever tsa officer killed in the line of duty. >> it is shocking. very nice guy. i am speechless. i am shocked. >> reporter: the shooter, the fbi releasing his photo, paul

ciancia who authorities say opened fire with a a high powered rifle. >> security in terminal 3. >> witnesses say there was a chaotic scene saying he started shooting outside the check point. as the police raced in he made it back to the terminal near the departure gate. passengers ducked for cover and some even hid in a bathroom stall. officers had their guns drawn yelling at passengers to drop to the floor. >> on the floor! on the floor! >> as people ran as fast as they could, the panic and the lock down that followed blocked ambulances from getting close causing rescue wokers to race hundreds of yards to get the wounded to safety. witnesses say the shooter was armed with multiple guns. when he ran out of bullets in one, he allegedly grabbed another. >> i heard gunshots. a few seconds later i saw him coming up the elevator and walk by 10 feet away with his

gunpointed. >> hernandez, a behavioral detection officer hired to recognize strange behavior, shot dead. two other officers injured and recovering from their wounds. police shot ciancia and he was rushed to a hospital. >> many people in this airport's lives were saved because of the actions of those individuals. >> the head of the tsa saying in a statement, no words can explain the horror we experienced. >> that was cecilia vega reporting. we also learned about one of the wounded, high school teacher brian ludmer. his mother said her son flew to l.a. for aed withing and came face-to-face with the gunman. the they say he was shot at least once in the leg when he tried to run away. he then dragged himself into a closet to hide until he heard police at the door. more now on the shooter. why did he snap? why was he targeting the tsa? sergio looks into the gunman's

background. >> in the small town of new jersey paul ciancia's family got a troubling text. troubling enough that the police chief and family friend was called to the house. he tills abc news the text they received suggested the 23-year-old might kill himself. >> our procedure is if somebody is concerned about a family member we call the local police department and do a well being check and that's basically what we did. it came back and he wasn't home. >> lapd went to ciancia's apartment and talked to his two roommates. they told officers the 23-year-old just left, but seemed fine. >> he was a really nice guy, a bit loner and introverted, but nothing i would ever, ever expect him to do something like this. >> at about the same time chaos was erupting at l.a.x., the lapd was calling the chief to tell him they completed their check. they had no idea at that moment a gunman later identified as ciancia was

shooting up interpret national 3 at -- terminal 3 at l.a.x. >> if you know this family well you grew up with the father, what kind of people are they? >> good people. >> he is a graduate of catholic high school in delaware. former classmates say he kept to himself and may have been bullied. abc7 news. >> the shooting caused massive air traffic troubles across the country as hundreds of flights had to be diverted from l.a.x. some were canceled and others delayed. ama dates has more from sfo on the inconvenience for travelers. >> just before 9:00 p.m. these weary travelers arrived. many were stuck at l.a.x. all day. sebastian grady was coming back from australia and his plane landed at l.a.x. minutes after the shooting. >> my brother who lives in los angeles texted me on the phone as soon as i landed. he said, be careful. there has been a shooting there. >> jennie may went to sfo from

australia and she realized something was wrong after she got her baggage. >> the doors closed and there was a holdup at the doors. one of the police or tsa said look there was an emergency. you are staying here. you are safe. >> they kept us in a baggage claim like this area for five hours. >> the shooting disrupted more than 700 flights across the country. delays and can cancellations left passengers stranded orie routed. at sfo it meant heightened security. >> out of an abundance of caution the san francisco police department stepped up routine patrols around the terminals as the event unfolded. >> terminal 2 began to look like every other friday night and travelers made the best of it. >> in the scheme of things we can deal with that for a day. it is unfortunate the tsa lost one of theirs and that is the tough part in my opinion. >> a little perspective. ama dates, abc7 news. >> and we just checked the

of running over christine last month. she was laying in the grass with her baby who was not hurt. she was arraigned last week and after the arraignment police said his son was involved in a possible hit-and-run with a bicyclist while leaving court. police decided not to charge him. this morning eight people are recovering after being rushed to the hospital after a car burst into flames in the tunnel yesterday morning. this is a look at the burned out car on the back of the tow truck. the fire started before 10:00 a.m. the tunnel was evacuated and the drivers left their cars behind. kevin watkins sent us this video of people trying to move through the smoky tunnel. high said it was hard to breathe. >> i did not have a scarf or anything, but i did put my shirt up over my face. other people had scarfs wrapped around their mouths and others had like a dust protector mask. >> seven of the eight people taken to the hospital are children. sky 7hd shows medics treating

people on highway 24. the eastbound lanes were shutdown for nearly two hours during the response. tomorrow portions of highway 101 in nava dough will be closed between 2:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. it is not a solid closure. the chp will be closing sections of 101 in 15-minute intervals. the partial closure is to allow pg&e crows to install -- crews to install new power lines. we have some coldness coming up in the future. >> and we have fog that is over the city right now. it is also along the coast. isn't this a beautiful picture from the exploratorium camera? if you are in the city you know what i am talking about and along the shoreline. elsewhere it is sunny, but a cold front is on the way. what that means for your weekend and about some changes you might like in the extended outlook. that's coming up. >> thanks, lisa. the revealing 9-1-1 calls from the nursing home where more than a dozen patients were

belongings. the owners are telling residents the building is badly damaged and may be toxic following the october 17th fire. they are offering however to let residents -- to help residents bring out a few boxes of their belongings. authorities say the fire appears to be accidental. a veteran trainer at 6 flags discovery kingdom was bitten by a sea lion yesterday. the animal bit the train inert leg. she was treated at the scene by paramedics and then taken for a tetanus shot. they can't say why the animal bit her and the sea lion is being evaluated. six flags is open, but it is not sure if the sea lion show will go on. they obtained the 9-1-1 tapes from the disthey discovered abandoned patients at the assisted living facility. several calls were made as the two remaining staff members asked for ambulances to come and help patients at valley springs manor.

they realized there was a big problem. >> can we respond to this location? it is a con vaw -- convalescent home and there are clients in the home without any support. looks like the management has left them here. >> we have also learned state wokers visited the facility as late as friday afternoon. a department of social services spokesman says he didn't know whether the state workers were aware residents were only being cared for by a cook and a janitor. hundreds of cameras will be stationed on the streets of new york city tomorrow to monitor the new york city marathon. new york is spending a million dollars on security. that's double previous amounts in response to the deadly boston marathon bombing last spring. and there could be checkpoint that could change the feel of the finish line. >> we will limit who is come together family reunion, but whether it is resident new yorkers, fans of the race, it

is a great idea to stay away from that area. >> 43 police dogs will be on the ground sniffing for explosives. each runner will be given a clear bag for personal items. an estimated 45,000 runners are expected to participate in the marathon. as you know it was canceled last year because of superstorm sandy. new this morning, a parade honoring the world series champion red sox is underway right now at fenway park in boston. they are traveling through the city through 24 am amphibious vehicles, duck boats. there are extra police on hand throughout the day. the red sox beat the cardinals 6-1 at fenway on wednesday to take the best of seven series. there is going to be a solar eclipse tomorrow. and no matter where you are in the world you will be able to see it thanks to the internet. it will be available firsthand on the eastern seaboard in southern europe and africa. for us in the bay area you have to go on-line if you want to see it live and luckily an

marine layer from 500 to 700 feet and it is making for pretty pictures, but some navigation problems from half moon bay to san francisco across the bay and the bay bridge as well. 50 in the city as well as san carlos. 48 and sunny skies in san jose. 47 in los gatos and the fog has gotten better. you were zero visibility, and now things are improving a bit. you can see the low clouds and the fog painting an interesting picture. 38 in santa rosa. a little fog in the north bay. low 40s out by the delta. we are looking at mid40s from concord to livermore. san jose, nice start to the day. temperatures will be into the 60s for highs today. out of the 70s for many. the cooling trend for the entire weekend, the gusty winds with a wind advisory for the higher elevations tonight. and then we are look at a chance of rain on thursday. a pattern change that really could open the storm door and bring in self-wet weather

makers beyond next week. so that's good news. we are at least an inch behind in rainfall for san francisco for this time. today with the gusty winds we will be looking at the winds up to 45 miles an hour. this is tonight, 11:00 through 7:00 tomorrow. for the north bay mountains and the east bay hills nchts the diablo range and then by tomorrow the winds will be easing back, but it will still be breezy of the so it has been dry and mild due to high pressure, but that is drifting off to the east of us. it will allow the low pressure to slowly slink into northern california. the rain will be in crescent city and that's about it. for the rest of us it means the temperatures are finally coming back to where they should be for today and tomorrow. you will notice a few extra clouds and this is tomorrow afternoon with partly cloudy skies and cooler conditions. the on shore winds kick up this afternoon and the temperatures in the south bay, upper 60s san jose and 72 in los gatos with 68 in sunnyvale

overnight hours. for the day today, we are looking at some sunshine and also temperatures coming down a few degrees. across the bay, we will call it partly cloudy with low 60s and some upper 60s for oakland. the coastline will see breezy on shore winds. upper 50s to low 60s. a few degrees of cooling inland, but still mild with upper 60s do to the -- to the lower 70s. this begins the cooling trend and we are looking for more seasonal weather in the upcoming workweek. i will explain in a few minutes. katie? >> back now to the developing news at l.a.x. we know the name of the tsa agent who was shot and killed. now we are seeing his picture. 39-year-old hernandez is the first tsa agent to die in the line of duty. he leaves behind two children. meanwhile operations at l.a.x. are slowly getting back toward normal. but the investigation into the deadly shooting is far from over. we go now live to the airport this morning.

>> good morning, katie. the terminal where the shooting unfolded is partially reopen this morning. that is welcome news for passengers x many of who we spoke to said they spent the night the at l.a.x., more than 160,000 people affected and those who were inside on friday morning describe the scene of shear chaos. >> a quiet morning at los angeles airport's terminal 3 suddenly plunged into panic and havoc. this tmz video shows the terrified traveler when's a lone gunman, paul ciancia, uh etch proked a checkpoint and pulled a semiautomatic rifle from a bag. he shot one tsa officer dead and wounded at least two others. >> first shot went out. and i mean it was a loud bang. boom. >> security in terminal 3. >> the shooter seemed to be aiming at tsa officers. a man wearing a blue tsa

uniform was helped from the scene holding up his bloody arm. >> i heard gunshots and we all just went down to the ground. >> those who could made a run for the exits while others sought shelter in bathrooms. >> i caught up with him near the rear of the terminal and that is where an officer involved shooting occurred. >> the gunman went down, wounded by police gunfire. he was taken to the hospital by ambulance under heavy guard. police say his rifle fell where he did. along with ammunition that might have fuelled a blood bath. >> there were more than a hundred more rounds that could have literally killed everybody in the terminal today. >> the tsa officer who died was gerardo hernandez, he was 39 and the first tsa agent ever killed in the line of duty. >> the tsa officer got up and went to work this morning and was not going to go home to their family.

>> hernandez leaves behind two sons. he had just transferred here from montana recently. law enforcement sources say the alleged shooter left behind a note expressing anger and frustration at the tsa and he expected to die out here in an airport shootout. live in los angeles, abc7 news. cat tee? katie. >> we understand tsa officials are going to visit with the victims' families today. what can you tell us about that? >> that's right. tsa administrator is expected to fly out here from washington, d.c. he is expected to meet with the family of that officer who was killed and also those wounded in the shooting yesterday. >> live at l.a.x. for us this morning. thank you. a big gun show this weekend will be the first since grcher brown vetoed a bill. the show is even more controversial with yesterday's shooting at l.a.x. vic lee with the story.

francisco. andy was shot on october 22nd while holding a toy gun that looked like an ak47 assault rifle. his older brother anthony lopez says the family is doing the best it can to cope. >> they are hanging in there. it is really hard on everyone. the house isn't even the same anymore. >> how so? >> it is quiet. it feels like there is a void in the house. >> today's gathering will be held on the field at morland avenue at 3:00. new this morning president obama says budget negotiations in congress are about choices and priorities. in his weekly address the president urges congress to pass a budget on spending, insphraw structure and -- infro infrastructure and research. he says there is cutting just for cutting. >> the deficits are getting smaller and not bigger. on my watch they are falling at the fastest pace in 60 years. it gives us room to fix our long-term debt problems without sticking it to young

congratulations to them. seems like yesterday it was orange and black confetti falling from the sky in san francisco. we will get em next year. happening today, officials officials in san mateo county will launch an informational campaign to let residents know about mosquitoes that spread yellow fever. no illnesses have been reported in california yet, but officials say the insect has been spotted in menlo park. vector control officials and volunteers will go door-to-door handing out information about how to prevent the spread of the mosquito and disease and that will begin at 9:30 a.m. it will be a chilly morning this morning. it is chilly and foggy right now. >> it has been a little too warm for november. it was 80 in santa cruz and right now partly cloudy skies. half mile visibility at the coast and we have fog over the bay. we can see it over there in oakland. we are looking for a cooler day today and wind advisory tonight and then we are talking rain in the seven-day outlook.

piedmont is fighting a crime wave by putting security cameras along the borders. the police department won't say where the cameras are located, but there will be a lot of them. wayne freedman has the story. >> around the out lying intersections in piedmont, look up. george orwell may have called these the eyes of big brother. but not others in this ideal city. >> i think we need big brother to watch us now. >> we have had our highest crime rate in the past eight years. i have looked at the records and it is probably the past 20 years. more importantly it has been the highest increase. >> piedmont city councilman cast one of five unanimous votes last spring to spend $sex 73,000 >> 673,000 on 15 locations in this city. they read license plates of cars arriving from oakland which surrounds piedmont. that's a big reason crime has been on the rise in these parts. >> well, the haves have more

is a cold front. in the next four to five hours it will continue to press south and work across the bay area and bring cooler conditions and increase the on shore flow. but then behind it we get even cooler air and some gusty winds. there is a wind advisory tonight. you can see the marine layer here making for a beautiful shot and not everyone is experiencing the fog. san francisco we are and 50 in oakland. san carlos 50 and san jose is sunny at 48. half moon bay about 2 and a half mile visibility now with conditions leakily to improve throughout the next couple hours. east bay hills, a nice looking shot with that compressed marine layer. not much of it, but where you do have it, the fog is pretty dense. 38 in santa rosa and 41 in novato and our friends in the east bay in the mid40s right now. the changes come around the bay today. we will still have a few 70s, but it will be cooler today. the coolest day out of the weekend tomorrow.

a look in the south bay right now and the cooling trend for everyone over the weekend beginning today. the gusty winds with the wind advisory and the north and east bay hills. the santa cruz mountains and the diablo range could see winds in excess of 40 miles an hour. make sure you have the lids on the garbage can and the things brought in overnight. it is going to be pretty windy out there and a possibility of downed trees or power lines and then we are looking for a bigger pattern change by the end of the upcoming workweek. here is a look at november. the san francisco almanac in review. the average temperature for the beginning of the week, well, the beginning of the month just about where we are today in the upper 60s. by the end of the month the lower 60s and we should see over two inches of rain for the month. a full moon coming in on november 17th. boy, we are way behind in rainfall. but if things look like they are going to verify the forecast computer models, we could see some rain and a big pattern change as we head into

november. high pressure weakens with the low pressure along the north of us. as this front continues to press south we have high pressure off the coast and the difference in the pressure gradient will allow for the very gusty winds tonight. not much change in terms of the sky cover today. tomorrow though we will look for partly cloudy and with the temperatures coming down, they will be more seasonal and they will look for the possibility of rain along the authority coast. eureka and crescent city and warm in los angeles at 80 and back home mid60s today. at the coast, 67 in oakland. notice we are definitely cooler and still some 70s though. and the out lying reaches of the day 72 in livermore and 71 in santa rosa and tomorrow we are looking at the raiders hosting philadelphia. temperatures in the mid60s under partly cloudy skies and breezy winds. we fall back tonight and cooler tomorrow. the cool conditions continue with sunny skies on monday. tuesday and wednesday a little moderation x but here is the bigger change.
